High performance liquid chromatography based quantification of reserpine in Rauwolfia tetraphylla L. and enhanced production through precursor feeding

Abstract Rauwolfia tetraphylla L., is an important medicinal plant in Apocynaceae family and recognized as alternative source to serpentina terms of anti-hypertensive alkaloid production i.e. reserpine. In view this, the present study conducted estimate reserpine content different parts (leaf, stem root) field grown plants (2 years old), tissue cultured plantlets (R 1 ) (two months old) cell suspensions cultures old with without precursor feeding) R. by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique. Overall maximum (in %) was estimated from root samples. Roots has recorded percent (0.39%) followed roots (0.35%) callus based suspension (0.38 which fed amino acid (100 mg/L tryptophan). control type cultures, quantified 0.14%; feeding tryptophan) it enhanced 0.38%. conclusion, (0.35 0.38%) produced 100 tryptophan comparable that plants.
